1 killed when vehicle crashes into overpass bridge support, catches fire on I-4 in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – One person was killed early Monday when their vehicle struck an overpass bridge support and became engulfed in flames on Interstate 4 in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 3:20 a.m. in the eastbound lanes at the exit ramp to State Road 44, mile marker 118.

According to a crash report, the vehicle was heading east on I-4 and went off the roadway, struck an electrical panel and continued traveling in the grass shoulder before hitting the support of the overpass.

The impact then sent the car rotating, and the vehicle later became engulfed in flames, troopers said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other details have been released.

An investigation is ongoing.
