68-year-old motorcyclist killed in Volusia County crash, troopers say

Crash happened at S.R. 40 and Cypress Street

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A motorcyclist was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Sunday in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers sad the crash happened at State Road 40 and Cypress Street around 12:02 p.m.

According to a crash report, a Kia Telluride SUV was traveling west on State Road 40, east of Cypress Street in the left turn lane.

At the same time, a Harley Davidson was traveling east on State Road 40, east of Cypress Street.

Troopers said the driver of the SUV made a left turn into the direct path of the motorcycle.

The man on the motorcycle swerved to avoid a collision, and as a result, laid down the bike. That caused the motorcyclist to propel forward and strike the rear of the SUV, according to the crash report

The motorcyclist, identified as a 68-year-old Ocala man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, identified as a 35-year-old DeLand woman, was not injured and remained at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
