VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A motorcyclist was struck and killed by a pickup truck that was attempting to pass traffic ahead of it on Saturday in Volusia County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred around 8:19 p.m. on State Road 415, north of Osceola Tram Road, troopers said.

According to an FHP crash report, the motorcyclist — identified as a 49-year-old Daytona Beach man — was traveling northbound on S.R. 415 as the pickup truck traveled south. The 60-year-old Deltona man driving the pickup truck attempted to pass traffic ahead of him and entered the northbound lane, where the front of the truck then struck the motorcycle as a result, the report states.

The motorcycle was engulfed in flames and its rider was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.

The pickup truck’s driver and his passenger — a 56-year-old Deltona woman — suffered serious injuries in the crash and were taken to the hospital, troopers said.

FHP is still investigating.
