DeBary man dies, passenger hurt in head-on Volusia County crash, sheriff’s office says

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A 54-year-old DeBary man riding a motorcycle in Volusia County died and his passenger was hospitalized after they collided head-on with an SUV on Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.

The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m. at Charles R. Beall and DeBary Plantation boulevards, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said on social media.

The DeBary man was traveling south on Charles R. Beall Boulevard, approaching DeBary Plantation Boulevard, when the driver of a northbound SUV attempted to make a left turn onto DeBary Plantation Boulevard in front of the motorcycle, resulting in a head-on collision, the post states.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene while his passenger was hospitalized for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, deputies said. The 76-year-old DeBary man driving the SUV was not injured and showed no signs of impairment, according to the sheriff’s office.

An investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said, adding lanes reopened to traffic overnight.
