Flooded Riverdale Elementary School to remain closed. Here’s the plan for students

Classes to be held at East River High School

ORLANDO, Fla. – Riverdale Elementary School in Orange County, flooded by Hurricane Ian, will remain closed for days.

Students who attend Riverdale will resume classes Thursday at East River High School while cleanup and repairs are made to the elementary school.

Riverdale sustained major flooding when the Little Econ River overflowed during the hurricane.

According to the district, a contract has been brought in to help with flood mitigation, cleanup and sanitization of the campus as students and faculty are switched over to the high school.

It’s not known how long the elementary school will be closed.

However, the district said that the quick response by crews meant many items in the building were able to be salvaged.

Other Orange County Public Schools students will return to class Tuesday. Osceola County students also return to school on Tuesday.

Classes for students in Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion, Seminole and Sumter counties resumed Monday.

Students in Volusia County resume classes on Wednesday.
