ORLANDO, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center on Tuesday designated an area of disturbed weather in the Caribbean as Invest 99L.
Once an Invest, or area of investigation, is designated, specialized hurricane models start running. Hurricane Hunter missions also begin.
While there is uncertainty in the overall track and intensity of the system, interests in Cuba, Central America and Florida should monitor the progress the system through the weekend and early next week.
If Florida were to be impacted, it would be during the early-to-middle portion of next week, around Nov. 20, give or take.
The National Hurricane Center says the disturbance a 90% chance to develop in the western Caribbean over the next seven days.
The next named storm will be called Sara.
Hurricane season runs through November.
