ORLANDO, Fla. – The disturbance in the Caribbean formerly known as Invest 99L has now been designated as Potential Tropical Cyclone 19.

Meteorologically, the storm is not yet tropical, however, it is expected to become tropical soon and impact land. The NHC uses this designation to issue watches and warnings.

The latest information shows it becoming a tropical depression early Thursday morning, then a tropical storm Thursday afternoon, getting the name Sara.

The storm is expected to move due west toward Central America and stall some. The center of the storm could potentially stay over the warm Caribbean waters, allowing it to get stronger.

Early next week, the latest path shows it moving over the Yucatan Peninsula as a tropical storm and interacting once more with land, resulting in it weakening.

It’s still expected to bring strong gusty winds and torrential rain to parts of Central America and Mexico in the coming days.
