ORLANDO, Fla. – Following a chilly weekend leading up to Thanksgiving, an even colder blast of air is set to arrive in Florida after Turkey Day.
A strong polar cold front is expected to move through Central Florida on Sunday, Dec. 1, allowing unseasonably cold air to plunge down the peninsula. The air arriving late in the weekend is currently charging up northwest of the Hudson Bay in Canada and is originating from the Arctic Circle.
Temperatures will likely start to drop Sunday with the coldest days early next week.
With this front, 30s and 40s will be common in Central Florida with upper 30s possible as far south as Osceola County. Temperatures could flirt with the freezing mark Monday and Tuesday mornings northwest of I-4.
What makes this round of cold different for Florida’s standards is the longevity.
By the end of the first week of December, temperatures will likely return to where they should be for early December, the mid-to-upper 70s.
Around Dec. 11, another strong cold front will bring another round of very cold air to Central Florida.
A persistent ridge in the Jetstream over the western U.S. will allow for several rounds of Arctic air to spill into Florida through the middle of the month.
