BRRRR! Central Florida wakes up to 30s, 40s for first day of winter

Afternoon highs will struggle to get in the 60s

ORLANDO, Fla. – Central Florida is waking up to a chilly start Saturday morning as the first day of winter brings a blast of cool air to the region.

Morning temperatures are starting off in the 30s and 40s, making for a brisk start to the day.

If you’ve stepped outside already, you’ve likely noticed a noticeable chill in the air. And it’s not just the calendar — today’s weather certainly feels like winter has arrived!

As we head into Saturday afternoon, expect plenty of sunshine but it will struggle to warm up.

Highs are forecast to reach only the lower 60s, making for a cool and crisp day across the area. The breeze will remain through the day, adding a bit of a chill to the air, especially if you’re outside for an extended period of time. So, be sure to bundle up if you have any outdoor plans!

Saturday highs

Saturday night, the chill continues. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 30s and middle to upper 40s, with areas north of Orlando likely seeing the coldest temperatures.

If you’re in a more rural area, you may even need to scrape some frost off your car in the morning.

Lows

Sunday will start off cold as well, with morning temperatures once again in the 40s and 50s. However, the sunshine will stick around, helping to warm things up into the upper 60s to low 70s by the afternoon — still below average for this time of year, but a slight improvement over Saturday’s cool temps.

Looking ahead to the holiday week, a warming trend begins. By Monday and Tuesday, temperatures will be back in the 70s, with more pleasant conditions.

Christmas Day itself looks to be sunny with a slight chance of isolated showers, but nothing that will ruin outdoor plans. Expect mild temperatures in the low 70s, making for a pleasant holiday forecast.
