ORLANDO, Fla. – The year 2025 is definitely off to a chilly start!
January has been bringing some serious cold weather to Central Florida, and it’s been unusual even by our standards.
Morning temperatures have been routinely starting in the 30s and 40s across the region, and afternoons have often struggled to reach the 50s and 60s.
Normally, the Orlando area is enjoying highs around 71 degrees at this time of year, so this cold streak is definitely standing out.
As of now, Orlando is experiencing its 12th coldest January ever on record, with an average high of 55.7 degrees.
For some context, the coldest January on record was in 1977, when highs averaged 50.6 degrees, which is pretty insane for Florida!
But it’s not just Orlando feeling the freeze. Other cities in the region are making the top 10 coldest Januarys, respectively.
Leesburg is seeing its 9th coldest January on record; Sanford its 7th; Melbourne its 6th; and Daytona Beach its 4th.

It’s been a tough month for anyone hoping for that Florida sunshine and warmth, but it’s also a reminder that it does get cold—even here in the Sunshine State!
So if you’re bundled up and wishing for a bit more warmth, you’re out of luck. It looks like this cold snap might hang around for a while longer!
