ORLANDO, Fla. – Now that 2024 has come and gone, Florida officials have released the figures for just how many car crashes were reported last year.

According to state data, there were over 380,000 crashes statewide last year — a figure that has been steadily dropping since 2021 — with nearly 3,000 of those crashes being fatal.

While state data shows that Miami-Dade County saw the greatest number of fatal crashes in 2024 (287 in total), it was far from the deadliest overall.

Instead, that figure went to Jefferson County, which saw a greater ratio of deadly crashes based on its population.

In fact, the 10 deadliest Florida counties for car crashes were as follows:

Central Florida didn’t manage to break the top 10 for deadliest counties this time around. The closest was Marion County, with roughly 2.79 fatal crashes per 10,000 residents.

However, two Central Florida counties did crack the top 10 when it came to the safest areas of the state: Seminole and Orange.
