MIMS, Fla. – Deputies made a second arrest Monday in connection with a shooting that killed a 16-year-old boy in Mims one week ago, according to the sheriff’s office.
The arrest of 19-year-old Exzaviar David came after a search party, comprised of deputies, K9s and a helicopter, scoured the east Mims neighborhood, where on Oct. 10 investigators said a hail of gunfire critically wounded a teen, who later died of his injuries.

David, who faces charges for second-degree murder with a firearm and two counts of attempted first-degree premeditated murder, was found in the area where deputies said he and another shooter fired at three teenagers.
“Today we located him in this area, started trying to get a perimeter set up, he ran. Our team came and started working this... we finally made contact with the individual and got him in custody,” Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a video. “These are two individuals that walked up to these three kids and started just... randomly shooting at them.”
This comes days after 19-year-old Robert Loyd, who faces the same charges as David, was arrested on Oct. 14.
The sheriff’s office said the 16-year-old victim was with two other teenagers when Loyd and David shot at them.
Loyd appeared before a judge Saturday and the 19-year-old is still behind bars at the county jail without bond.
“Our prayers are with the family. This is a child that has been taken from us by these individuals with their violence and they’re out here on the street causing all sorts of havoc,” Ivey said.

Recently, Loretta Garvin said gun violence is becoming a normal occurrence to neighbors.
The sheriff’s office said shootings in the neighborhood in January and August claimed the lives of 30-year-old Ashton Geiger and 21-year-old Tommy Brothers.
“It’s getting really bad out here,” Garvin said. “I just pray that these kids and teenagers get themselves together.”
The sheriff’s office Monday afternoon also did not release the arrest affidavit for the first suspect.
