DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Smoke could be an issue in Daytona Beach for the next few days after a prescribed burn jumped its containment line Wednesday, according to fire officials.
The Daytona Beach Fire Department said a prescribed burn in an area south of State Road 40 and west of a subdivision off LPGA Boulevard jumped the fire line in two different spots, creating two other fires.
The fires, 4 acres and 7 acres each, have been contained and no evacuations were needed.
“The smoke became heavy in the area. We launched our drone team, which we did confirm that (the fire) had jumped the authorized lines,” Deputy Chief Jessica Matthews, of the fire department, said.
Smoke could still be an issue for the next several days, according to officials.
