SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. – Residents in Seminole County spotted smoke in the air Tuesday, and the stench was still lingering Wednesday morning.
The Seminole County Fire Department announced that the smoke was caused by a fire in Volusia County.

Volusia County Fire Rescue told News 6 that the 645-acre “Sandy Drain Fire” was spotted by a Florida Forest Service helicopter around 4 p.m. Monday.
Since then, the forest service and VCFR have been fighting the fire, which was 97% contained as of 8 p.m. Tuesday, VCFR explained.
“The containment was difficult due to the dry and windy conditions,” a VCFR representative said. “No homes are endangered, and no roads are closed.”
According to VCFR, the fire was north of Maytown Road and east of Pell Road.
However, SCFD said the smoke had made its way to Seminole County. Fire officials ask residents in the county to only call 911 if they see a “direct column of smoke or flames.”
The city of Oviedo on Wednesday posted on X that “the smell of brush fire extends into eastern Seminole County.”
