Here’s how Volusia, Flagler residents can apply for D-SNAP benefits after recent hurricanes

Event runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., ends Nov. 19

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Residents of Volusia and Flagler counties who were impacted by hurricanes Helene and Milton can get help applying for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (D-SNAP) benefits starting Sunday.

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) will offer on-site application assistance at the Ocean Center, located at 101 N. Atlantic Avenue in Daytona Beach.

Volusia County resident Kendrick Castro said he experienced firsthand the devastation that Milton brought to his home and family.

“It’s very important because many people, at least everyone who came here, suffered,” he said. “Milton was the one that caused a lot of suffering. I had lost a lot, mostly food, we lost a lot of things and honestly, with what they’re giving me today, I supplied everything that I have lost. I am grateful with everything.”

George Sanchez, another Volusia County resident, told us his refrigerator will be full for the holidays thanks to the D-SNAP event.

“I read, ‘90 days’ — we’ll have food for Thanksgiving, it’s going to be special for us for Christmas,” he said.

The event will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, ending on Tuesday, Nov. 19. This in-person assistance is for residents who preregistered online but were unable to complete their required phone interviews.

Here’s what you need to know:

Who should attend?

  • Residents who preregistered online by Friday, Nov. 15, but couldn’t complete their phone interview.
  • Residents who didn’t preregister before the deadline but need assistance — DCF will reopen online preregistration during the event.

Who should not attend?

  • Current SNAP recipients, as they are not eligible for D-SNAP benefits.
  • Residents who have already been informed that they were approved for D-SNAP benefits. Approved applicants will receive their EBT cards in the mail.

Residents are strongly encouraged to pre-register online at www.myflfamilies.com/dsnap before attending the event. Preregistration helps streamline the process and reduces wait times.

For those who were unable to preregister by the Nov. 15 deadline, the online portal will reopen during the on-site assistance dates.

What is D-SNAP?

D-SNAP provides food assistance to families recovering from natural disasters. The program offers short-term relief to help households purchase food following events like hurricanes.

Approved D-SNAP applicants will receive their benefits via EBT cards mailed to the address listed on their applications. Residents with questions can visit www.myflfamilies.com/dsnap or contact the Florida Department of Children and Families.

Don’t miss this opportunity for relief — the on-site assistance is only available from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
