Cold weather shelters open in Central Florida as temps set to plummet

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Cold weather shelters in several Central Florida counties will open this week as a front is expected to drop temperatures across Central Florida.

Flagler County

The shelter at Rock Transformation Center, located at 2200 N. State St., will open Wednesday at 5 p.m. and close at 8 a.m. Thursday.

Temperatures are expected to fall below 40 degrees from Wednesday night through Thursday morning.

The county will provide bus transportation Wednesday along two routes, following the schedules below:

East side of the county

  • Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General), 3:30 p.m.
  • McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.
  • Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree Parking lot, 4:30 p.m.
  • Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast and Belle Terre parkways, 4:45 p.m.

West side of the county

  • Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
  • Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Blvd., 4:30 p.m.
  • Bridges United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine St., 4:30 p.m. (listed as the same pick-up time because of the close proximity)

Lake County

The shelter at LifePointe Church, located at 3551 East Orange Ave., will open Wednesday at 5 p.m. and close at 8 a.m. Thursday.

The county’s bus service, LakeXpress, will give free rides from any stop to those heading to the shelter.

Anyone who needs travel accommodations to the cold weather shelter is asked to call Lake County Emergency Management at 352-343-9420.

Volusia County

Neighborhood Center’s The Bridge cold weather shelter, located at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand, will open Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and close Thursday at 8 a.m.

Breakfast will be served Thursday morning before the shelter closes.
