VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Cold weather shelters across Central Florida are opening as temperatures are set to plummet to freezing in some parts of the area.
This past weekend shelters in Brevard, Flagler, Lake, Marion and Volusia counties opened with the first punch of cold air.

This week, shelters are opening as temperatures in the area are set to plummet thanks to an arctic front.

Flagler County
A cold weather shelter will open at the Rock Transformation Center, located at 2200 N. State Street, from Monday, Jan. 6, through Sunday, Jan. 11.
The shelter will open at 5 p.m. each night and close at 8 a.m. the following day.
There will be two bus routes in the county for the shelter:
East side of the county
- Dollar General at Publix Town Center on Market Avenue (leads to Dollar General), 3:30 p.m.
- McDonald’s at Old Kings Road South and State Road 100 at the dirt road on the east side, 4 p.m.
- Dollar Tree behind Carrabba’s in the Dollar Tree Parking lot, 4:30 p.m.
- Palm Coast Main Branch Library, northwest corner of Palm Coast Parkway and Belle Terre Parkway, 4:45 p.m.
West side of the county
- Dollar General at County Road 305 and Canal Avenue in Daytona North, 4 p.m.
- Bunnell Free Clinic, 703 Moody Boulevard, 4:30 p.m.
- Bridges United Methodist Church in Bunnell, 205 N. Pine Street, 4:30 p.m. (listed as the same pick-up time because of the close proximity)
Lake County
Lake County will open its cold weather shelter Monday, Jan. 6, through Friday, Jan. 10, at LifePointe Church, located at 2551 East Orange Ave. in Eustis.
The cold weather shelter will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day through Friday.
Anyone who needs transportation to the shelter, located at 3551 East Orange Ave., can call Lake County Connection at 352-742-2612. There will also routes on LakeXpress to the shelter:
- Salvation Army, 2605 South Street, Leesburg, 3:20 p.m.
- Citizens Transfer Center, 1321 Citizens Boulevard, Leesburg, 3:40 p.m.
- Ardice Transfer Center, Ardice Avenue West of State Road 19, Eustis, 4:30 p.m.
- The Open Door, 115 East Citrus Avenue, Eustis, 4:45 p.m.
- LifePointe Church, 3551 East Orange Avenue, Eustis, 5 p.m.
- Clermont Park and Ride, 1995 U.S. Highway 27, Clermont, 5:45 p.m. **Citizens must arrive at the Clermont Park and Ride by 5:00 p.m.. If no one is found waiting at 5 p.m., a bus will not be dispatched for the 5:45 p.m. pick-up.

There will also be a warming station at 2605 South St. in Leesburg that will operate outside of shelter hours. This station will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Marion County
The Salvation Army will have sheltering accommodations in place for the upcoming cold weather for those that need to seek refuge.
Due to lower temperatures the Salvation Army is prepared for a possible influx of individuals seeking shelter. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Management Division will be working with the Salvation Army and our other community partners to ensure the safety and well-being of those that require the need for cold weather sheltering.
- The Salvation Army – Center of Hope located at 320 NW 1st Ave., in Ocala. Check-in time is at 6:00 p.m.
Orange County
Temporary cold-weather warming centers will be available overnight beginning Monday, Jan. 6, 2025, at 7 p.m.
- South Econ Recreation Center Gym(Adjacent to the Renaissance Senior Center) located at 3800 S. Econlockhatchee Trail in Orlando
- Opens Monday at 7:00 p.m. and closes Tuesday morning at 08:00 a.m.
- Opens on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. and will close Wednesday morning at 08:00 a.m.
- Barnett Park Recreation Center Gym located at 4801 W. Colonial Drive in Orlando. 32808
- Opens tonight at 7:00 p.m. and closes Tuesday morning at 08:00 a.m.
- Opens Tuesday night at 5:00 p.m. and will close Wednesday morning at 08:00 a.m.
Regional LYNX buses will provide free rides for individuals seeking transportation to the Homeless Services Network shelters listed below. Riders must let the LYNX driver know that they need shelter. The LYNX driver will transport those in need to the nearest HSN shelter location.
Coalition for the Homeless located at 18 N. Terry Ave. in Orlando
The Salvation Army Orlando (Men Only) located at 624 Lexington Ave. in Orlando
Orlando Union Rescue Mission located at 3300 West Colonial Drive in Orlando
Osceola County
With temperatures expected to drop below 40° for more than four hours this Tuesday, Wednesday amd Thursday, two churches in Osceola County are opening as cold weather shelters for those in need:
- First United Methodist Church, 1000 Ohio Avenue, St. Cloud, 6 p.m. until 8 a.m.
- Iglesia de Nazareno Casa de Vida, 2367 Fortune Road, Kissimmee, 6 p.m. until 8 a.m.
Volusia County
The Bridge at The Neighborhood Center, located at 421 S. Palmetto Ave. in DeLand, will open Monday, Jan. 6, through Thursday, Jan. 9.
The shelter will open at 6:30 p.m. and close at 8 a.m. the following morning.

On the county’s east side, Halifax Urban Ministries will help coordinate cold weather shelters with local churches for Saturday evening.
“Although HUM does not operate a cold-weather shelter at any of its facilities, it works with partner organizations to provide shelter options. Individuals needing shelter or transportation to a shelter are encouraged to contact HUM as soon as possible at 386-317-5886,” a release said.
