Officials said that no structures are in danger from the fire. Firefighters worked diligently to contain the fire and protect the surrounding area.

The Cowpen Fire ignited Thursday afternoon after a piece of farm equipment malfunctioned near Phillips Ranch, according to Flagler County Fire Chief Michael Tucker. While the fire remained uncontained as of Thursday night, officials said it is not currently threatening any homes.

“Because of the winds and weather, the fire was moving excessively fast,” Tucker said. “Fortunately, we have not lost any structures.”

Video from the area shows heavy smoke rising west of County Road 305, near the Flagler-Volusia county line. Officials posted updates, including images of the fire, on social media as efforts continued into the evening.

“Please don’t burn,” Tucker said. “I know it’s tempting, but right now is just not the time.”

Fire officials have not said when full containment is expected, yet provided an update Friday morning to state the fire was 90% contained.

The burn ban remains in effect for Flagler County.
