The race for the vacant US House seat in District 6 is intensifying.
The seat was left open after Mike Waltz became President Trump’s national security advisor. This Republican stronghold spans parts of Volusia, Flagler, St. Johns, Marion, Putnam, and Lake counties.
President Trump won the district by 30 points and has endorsed Randy Fine.
“I’ve been honored to see him several times. He gave me a challenge coin, which is quite large. I appreciate his support as I prepare for my election on April 1,” Fine told News 6.
Democrat Josh Weil believes Fine’s endorsement may backfire.
“When we flip this seat, my opponent’s only campaign strategy is Trump’s endorsement. Republicans must be accountable to their constituents in Congress,” Weil told News 6. Weil has fundraised millions more than Fine.
In Lake County, voters shared their opinions.
About Fine, one voter said, “He’s a Republican with Trump’s backing. That’s the main reason.” Another added, “He’s honest and will do a good job.”
Regarding Weil, a voter noted, “He wants to protect Social Security and the environment.” Another remarked, “Randy Fine is too conservative for my taste.”
Randy Fine is a state senator from Brevard County, while Josh Weil is an Orlando school teacher.
The election is set for April 1. Early voting for the special election is underway and runs through Saturday. Find out how you can vote HERE.
