Milton made landfall as strong Category 3 storm

ORLANDO, Fla.Hurricane Milton made landfall Wednesday night along Florida’s Gulf Coast as a major Category 3 storm, causing flooding and power outages across the state.

The hurricane lashed Central Florida with flooding rains and damaging winds.

As of 2 p.m. Thursday, Milton became a post-tropical cyclone. Meteorologically, it lost its tropical characteristics, however, it is still a powerful storm producing hurricane-force winds similar to a Nor’easter.

Milton brought strong damaging winds, considerable rainfall, the threat of flooding, tornadoes and coastal storm surge throughout its duration.

Multiple powerful tornadoes ripped across Florida hours before Milton made landfall Wednesday, tearing off roofs, overturning vehicles and sucking debris into the air as the black V-shaped columns moved through.

On the forecast track, the center of Milton will continue to move away from the east coast of Florida and pass north of the northwestern Bahamas today.
