Warmup coming to Central Florida. Here’s how long it will last

ORLANDO, Fla. – Winds veering in off the ocean for Friday will kickstart the warming trend that is expected to last into next week.

Temperatures will gradually rise as the sun comes up, with highs reaching the low to mid-70s Friday afternoon. As the day goes on, a few clouds will bring isolated to scattered showers, especially from midday onward, as moisture builds in off the ocean.

Northeast winds will be steady at 10-15 mph inland and 15-20 mph along the coast, picking up to 20-25 mph in the afternoon. After sunset, expect temperatures to drop into the upper 50s to low 60s inland, but stay in the mid to upper 60s closer to the coast.

WEEKEND:

Beach conditions will only get more dangerous as we head into the weekend. A high risk of life-threatening rip currents is in place today, along with a high surf and small craft advisory.

The surf will be hazardous, with waves reaching 6 to 9 feet. It’s definitely not a weekend to swim, as dangerous rip currents are expected, along with the possibility of minor to moderate beach erosion due to the long-period swells that will stick around through the weekend and into next week.

Expect scattered showers along the coast on Saturday, that will spread inland through the weekend as the atmosphere continues to moistens up. Despite the added clouds, temperatures will continue to warm, reaching the mid to upper 70s both days.

Saturday morning will likely be the cooler one, with inland areas dipping into the upper 50s, while Sunday morning will see most places starting off in the 60s.

NEXT WEEK:

The forecast for the following week is a bit tricky, as weather models don’t fully agree on the pattern after Monday. Forecast will be very dependent on how much of a punch the next cold front will bring. Model trends differ about 10-20 degrees into next week depending on which scenario plays out.

Early next week should see highs in the upper 70s to low 80s, but the situation becomes more uncertain as we move into Thursday.
