Advisory issued in Central Florida as wind chills dip into the 20s. How long will this cold snap last?

Cold Weather Advisory in effect until 9 a.m.

ORLANDO, Fla. – It’s a chilly, dry morning with breezy northwest winds rolling in right on schedule in the wake of a big arctic front. Through the early hours of Tuesday morning, wind chill values are dipping into the upper 20s to mid-30s, especially from Orange County northward.

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in place for Lake, Volusia, Seminole, and Orange counties until 9 a.m. Be sure to bundle up, and keep your pets inside! In some sheltered areas in Lake, Volusia and Marion counties, patchy frost is possible but the breeze should keep coverage minimal.

Cold Weather Advisory

TUESDAY:

Tuesday’s highs will be 10 to 15 degrees below the usual for early January (72 degrees). From Melbourne north, temperatures will have a hard time reaching the mid to 50s. Expect a mix of sun and clouds, with more cloud cover near the coast.

Highs Tuesday

Northerly winds will be around 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph, weakening by the evening hours. As the clouds clear, especially to the west, temperatures will cool quickly, dipping into the upper 30s to mid-40s for another night.

Lows Wednesday Morning

WEDNESDAY:

Looking ahead to Wednesday and Thursday, colder temperatures will stick around. Wednesday will start off cold but winds will be lighter, keeping wind chills in the low to mid-30s. By the afternoon, with mostly clear skies, temperatures should warm up into the mid to upper 60s.

Highs Wednesday

THURSDAY:

Thursday morning will be even colder, with efficient cooling expected due to clear skies and a light breeze. Wind chills will be in the upper 20s to upper 30s, so another Cold Weather Advisory might be needed.

Highs will range from the mid to upper 50s in the northern half of the area, to low to mid-60s in the south. Breezy north winds at the coast will make it feel even colder.

Highs Thursday

FRIDAY:

By Friday, things will warm up a little further into the upper 60s as high pressure builds in and shifting our winds more southeasterly.

WEEKEND:

The weather will get a bit more active Saturday, as another winter storm develops over the Gulf and moves toward Florida. We will see breezier conditions starting up Saturday with a 30-40% chance of rain through the early afternoon. The rain will likely stay light, with totals around a quarter-inch or less.

Cold Outlook

After the front passes, cooler weather will return Sunday morning through early next week, with morning lows in the upper 30s to 40s and highs in the 50s and 60s.

There’s still some uncertainty in the forecasts, but it looks like the cold weather could stick around a little longer than usual this month.
