ORLANDO, Fla. – We’re starting Thursday with some of the coldest temperatures we’ve seen this season, marking the coldest morning since last January.
Cold Weather Advisories are in place for most of Central Florida until 9 a.m., with wind chills ranging from 25 to 30 degrees. A Freeze Warning has been issued for Marion, Lake, Sumter, Volusia and Flagler counties also until 9 a.m. with actual temperatures dropping below freezing.
Even after the sun comes up, temperatures are going to struggle to get out of the 50s, running 10-15 degrees below normal. Highs are expected to be in the low to mid-50s for areas north of I-4, and in the upper 50s to low 60s to the south. Breezy northerly winds will create hazardous beach conditions, including a strong longshore current and a moderate risk of rip currents.
FRIDAY
It will be another chilly morning on Friday, but not as cold as Thursday morning. The coast will feel the warmest, as winds shift to an onshore flow. Expect overnight lows in the upper 30s to low 40s for most areas. Winds will calm, reducing the wind chill, but it’ll still feel like the mid-30s to low 40s Friday morning.
Frost isn’t likely, but patchy frost could form north of I-4, especially if temperatures drop a bit further.
A brief warmup is expected as we head into the weekend with daytime temperatures rebounding back to near 70 degrees with cloud cover gradually increasing ahead of an approaching cold front. The added moisture in the air will make lows overnight significantly warmer with lows upper 50s to low 60s.
SATURDAY
Another cold front is expected to clear through the state on Saturday, bringing isolated to scattered showers, especially along and north of I-4 before sunrise on Saturday. The chances of rain drop as the front moves south. Forecast models show winds picking up ahead of the front but with limited storm chances expected.
Highs on Saturday will be in the mid to upper 60s north of I-4 and in the 60s to low 70s further south. By Saturday night, the winds will shift to the north and cool, dry air will return, with lows dipping into the 40s.
NEXT WEEK
It’s going to stay cooler for the rest of the week, with temperatures below normal for much of next week. A few showers can’t be ruled out on Monday, but it looks like we’ll see more dry fronts after that. Temperatures into next week will remain below normal during the day and into the overnight hours.
