Record highs possible as Central Florida heads back into the 80s before cold front arrives. Here’s what to know

Cold front sweeps through Saturday

ORLANDO, Fla. – High pressure is sitting off the mid-Atlantic coast, bringing light southeast winds across east Central Florida today and making it the warmest day of the year on Friday.

Highs will be in the low 80s, maybe even reaching the mid-80s inland, with temps along the coast in the upper 70s. Some areas inland could even get close to record breaking highs.

The same high pressure that has kept us dry and mild will slide into the western Atlantic as a weak cold front starts to move toward the central peninsula overnight into early Saturday morning. Before the front arrives, winds will shift from southeast/south to southwest by Friday afternoon. Winds will pick up to around 10-15 mph inland, with stronger gusts of 20-25 mph closer to the coast.

Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s to low 60s. Although most of us should stay dry, we can’t rule out the chance for a brief sprinkle (10-20%) through daybreak as the front passes overhead Saturday morning.

The cold front will continue to push southward, moving through Central Florida on Saturday morning and early afternoon, possibly stalling out across the south-central peninsula. With not much energy pushing the front, expect some clouds but minimal chances for rain—under 20%.

Winds will shift to the north-northeast after the front moves through. Highs will be cooler, ranging from the upper 60s to low 70s in northern counties, and low to mid 70s along the I-4 corridor. Lows will be mild, in the 50s north of I-4 and low 60s southward, with mid-60s along the Martin County coast.

The front could stick around into Sunday and early next week, and while rain chances are low, we can’t rule out some light rain. Temperatures will start to warm up again on Sunday and remain above normal through the week.

Expect highs in the mid to upper 70s along the Volusia coast and north Brevard on Sunday, with low 80s most other areas.

From Monday through Friday, temperatures will range from upper 70s to low 80s at the coast, with a light onshore breeze, and low to mid 80s inland.
