ORLANDO, Fla. – We’re tracking a line of storms moving in from the Gulf ahead of another front that is forecast to arrive late Monday morning and into the afternoon. While most of the activity should remain below severe threat, we can’t rule out the chance of a few stronger storms to develop.
A tornado warning was issued for Seminole County through 10 a.m.
The main focus Monday is when and where the showers and storms will pop up as the cold front moves from northwest to southeast.
High-resolution models show showers reaching I-75 by 9 a.m., near I-4 by mid-morning, moving out to the coast by 12p.m.- 2 p.m.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed areas southeast of I-4 under a Marginal Risk (level 1/5) for severe storms. The biggest threats will be wind gusts of 50-60 mph and an isolated risk of hail up to the size of a quarter. There’s also a slight risk for a brief tornado, mainly in the area highlighted under the Marginal risk.
Fortunately, the rain will move quickly and with the recent dry conditions, flooding doesn’t look like a big concern.
On top of the rain and storms, we’ll see some gusty winds in a couple of phases today. Before the storms, we’ll see peak gusts of 35 mph or higher. Once the skies start clearing out along I-4 and to the northwest later this afternoon, gusty winds will continue. Due to this strong breeze, a Wind Advisory is in effect for east-Central Florida from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
Expect a wide range of temperatures today: highs in the upper 60s to low 70s northwest of I-4, and mid-80s south of Fort Pierce.
By Monday night, dry air moves in quickly, but it’ll stay breezy. Overnight lows will drop into the 40s to low 50s, making for a cool night. Expect a chillier start tomorrow with temperatures near 50 degrees by daybreak.
A high-pressure system will settle overhead by midweek, bringing quiet weather. We’ll have chilly mornings through Thursday, with some rural areas dipping into the 40s by Wednesday morning. Afternoons will warm up, with mid-70s on Tuesday, reaching the low to mid-80s by Thursday.
A weakening cold front will move through Florida on Sunday, bringing 30-40% chances for showers and a few storms.
