BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Wind gusts and heavy rain are coming in waves along Brevard County as conditions deteriorate with Hurricane Nicole’s arrival.
At Kennedy Space Center, where the Artemis moon rocket is on Launch Pad 39B, saw a max wind gust of 73 mph around midnight. NASA says the rocket can handle winds of 85 mph.

Thousands around the county were without power overnight.
A little further south at the Cocoa Beach Pier, News 6 reporter Merris Badcock reported getting sandblasted. Metal siding on the pier was loosening, and whistling in the wind.
In downtown Melbourne, store windows shook and signs and trees bent as the winds picked up. Rain has been heavy as those bands from the hurricane sweep through.
Meanwhile, out on the barrier island, wind and waves whipped the sand dunes at Ponce de Leon Landing. Beach erosion is a problem for a coast that already sustained damage from Hurricane Ian.
